Misfit Family
History
Patrick grew up on the Texas coast in a little fishing village where the weather and gulf waters were always warm. Fishing, crabbing, and boating were typical activities year-round, but during the summers, Patrick would go and help his grandpa out on the YO Ranch in Kerrville, Texas. Back before the YO was a tourist destination and event center, it was roughneck ranching at its finest with cattle drives, calf roping, and dinners at the chuckwagon, which may or may not include the opossum that kept getting in the barn…
The YO is where Patrick first learned to love ranching, but his father would go on to purchase a sizable ranch of his own after Patrick was an adult, and he would help his father with his ranch services, too. Patrick also became a master gardener and worked for a company that sold supercharged vitamin supplements for plants, so he has been entrenched in the lifestyle for most of his life.
Susan is originally from a small town in the heart of the Texas Hill Country, and she spent her youth roaming miles of backwoods and swimming in the Blanco river. She lived on 6 acres, and her dad had a hobby farm, so she learned much about farming from a young age. When she was 21, Susan had her first small farm, and although she was forced to give it up, she vowed to make it back to living off the land.
The Present
After multiple setbacks and a glorious gift from God (it’s a boy!), things have finally come full circle for Patrick and Susan. A few rounds of cancer courtesy of Uncle Sam forced Patrick into early retirement, so Susan set about making a complete lifestyle change for their family. After much deliberation, it was decided that the best way to ensure a good quality of life for Patrick, as well as Susan and their son, was to get back to nature and stress less. And thus, Misfit Farms was born!
