The Costa Rican Dwarf purple and white Isopods are some of the coolest isopods you will find in the hobby. These pods are a parthenogenetic species meaning they are asexual.  Because females do not have to rely on sperm from a male to reproduce, these isopods are incredibly prolific. Dwarf Purple isopods like to burrow deep, so this adds to aeration in the tank in addition to their outstanding tank cleaning abilities. Dwarf Purple pods are more active than their cousins, the Dwarf White, so they get a tank cleaned faster, whereas the Dwarf Whites provide a refreshing treat for smaller animals like dart frogs. By providing a combination of both species, what one lacks, the other makes up for, and they complement each other well.

We find that by keeping the isopods on a regular schedule, they experience less stress and less downtime needed to acclimate to their new surroundings. Additionally, the in-transit losses are minimal as we ship them in the same type of substrate they have in their enclosures, so they do not go into shock while bouncing around in a box.
